If you are engaged and seeking the Sacrament of Marriage, congratulations! May the Lord's blessings be yours at this time in your journey as a couple.
The Sacrament of Marriage is a sacred commitment, a covenant entered into by two people who bind themselves for life in the Love that is Christ. As such it is indeed a profound and public step which the couple asks the Christian Community and it's minister to witness. Rev. Jim David, M.Div, and Rev. Marie David, M.Ed., the Directors of Evensong by the Sea Retreat & Spirituality Center, are both available to work with couples in Southeastern MA as they prepare for this important celebration.
Rev. Jim David
was ordained a Roman Catholic Priest in 1985. He resigned from
the Roman Catholic clerical order in 1993 to continue to work
for reform in the church. He continues his ministry as a priest
in good standing in the Ecumenical Catholic Church. Rev.
Marie David is an ordained priest in the Community of Roman Catholic
Womenpriests and also serves as a priest in good standing in the
Ecumenical Catholic Church. They minister to Roman Catholics who
find themselves not accepted by officials in the church and others
who seek to have God in their lives.
Both Reverends David are authorized to perform ministerial functions including officiating in marriage ceremonies. In addition to faculties (authority) from the Catholic Ecumenical Church, they are both certified as officiants by the Federation of Christian Ministries.
Couples may request either Reverend to offciate at their wedding. They will be asked to meet with whomever they choose on two occasions prior to the wedding. These sessions are designed to address a number of important issues:
-to give the couple and the minister time to become acquainted
-to allow for a discussion of what hopes the couple have for their life together
-to explore the wisdom handed down to our time by many generations of Christians
-and to prepare the Wedding Ceremony.
The wedding ceremony is conducted according to the Roman Catholic Rite. Whichever priest you request will work with couples to ensure that the ceremony unfolds smoothly and in accord with their wishes. The marriage is witnessed in accord with state law. Weddings are not conducted on site at Evensong Retreat Center. Couples must find their own site for the wedding. (It is important for couples to understand that while their marriage will be civilly and legally binding, it will not be recognized as valid in the eyes of officials in the Roman Catholic Church.
