About Evensong by the Sea

Welcome to Evensong by the Sea Retreat & Spirituality Center and to Cape Cod. We invite you to discover the quiet beauty that the Cape offers "off-season."

Our guest rooms are comfortably furnished in a casual, country style. Evensong staff are pleased to offer you space for silence and reflection to renew your spirit and refresh your soul.

There is common space for meals and for quiet reading, and for dining. Meals are taken in silence unless otherwise determined by the retreat director.

St. Mary of Magdala Chapel at Evensong is also available for meditation and a regular schedule of common prayer in which retreatants are invited to participate. A labyrinth known as Margaret's Path provides an outdoor setting for meditative walks.

Those who enjoy the outdoors may take advantage of the many natural settings that this part of Cape Cod offers. An easy-to-ride bike trail offers a journey through gentle forest settings, meadows, and cranberry bogs.

A beautiful beach facing Nantucket Sound is just a short walk down a tree-lined street.

Some retreatants enjoy the quiet small-town setting of Harwich Port, with its quaint shops and small restaurants. It is a half-mile walk down pleasant neighborhood sidewalks.

A walk across the road from Evensong provides a beautiful view of Allens Harbor, where one can watch
the ever changing cluster of boats.

Evensong by the Sea Retreat & Spirituality Center enjoys a dual identity. From mid-May through the end of October it serves the public as Harbor Breeze Inn of Cape Cod.

Evensong Directors Marie & Jim David had a dream for many years of opening a retreat center to serve those who sought a place of silence and safety where they might spend time developing or renewing their Friendship with God. A way to achieve that dream was given to them with the idea of purchasing an operational inn and maintaining it as a business during peak season to provide the funds to cover the cost of purchase and overall operation. The facility would then be available for retreats during off-season months.

In early 2002 the opportunity was presented to make that dream a reality with the purchase of the Harbor Breeze Inn. The entire experience has been an amazing journey, with many people lending a helping hand, and with many doors opening in remarkable ways. Jim & Marie enjoy operating the Harbor Breeze Inn as their small part in helping to make Evensong Retreat & Spirituality Center a reality.
